Beyond the Basics in Puerto Rican Fare
New York Times | Westchester Dining Section | White Plains | A Review of Sofrito Restaurant in White PlainsWESTCHESTER COUNTY is experiencing something of a Latin awakening. There have long been little corner eateries offering no-frills but often tasty food that catered mainly to the county’s Spanish-speaking population. But recently, more sophisticated, upscale restaurants have been popping up, taking the Caribbean and Latin American fare in the area to a new culinary level.
Owners of the critically lauded Sofrito and Sazon in Manhattan, Carlos Beltran and Genaro Morales, who is known as J. R., brought their concept to White Plains in September 2011. The team’s recipe — a creative kitchen, exciting décor and a warm staff — is attracting enthusiastic crowds.
